Law enforcement officials have reported a significant drug bust at Port Castries, valued at over $4 million. This premier seaport has recently become the focus of several unrelated narcotics seizures.
On March 26, a collaborative operation involving the Customs and Excise Department and the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit (GNFU), supported by other units of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), resulted in the successful seizure of both drugs and cash.
During a routine inspection of a shipment, officers noticed an anomaly that warranted a more thorough search.
This led to the discovery of approximately 149.69 kilograms of compressed cannabis and 10.144 kilograms of cannabis resin. The cannabis resin is estimated to have a street value of $405,760, while the compressed cannabis is valued at about $3,742,250.
Additionally, officers found USD $110,000 concealed within the shipment.
One individual is currently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.
