The Saint Lucia Chess Federation continues to promote the growth of chess among young women, hosting a “Girls in Chess” Blitz and Simul at St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School on Thursday, March 19, 2026, under the theme “Inspiring the Next Generation.”
The event provided an exciting and interactive experience for students, who had the opportunity to engage with two distinguished figures in the global chess community—Jose Carrillo and Dana Reizniece, Deputy Chair of the FIDE Management Board.
Participants not only sharpened their chess skills but also gained valuable insight into the work of FIDE, the sport’s international governing body. The session further strengthened their appreciation for the game and encouraged continued participation.
SLCF President Tris-Ann Richards commended the school for its strong involvement in the sport, noting that it remains one of the most active girls’ chess clubs on the island, recently securing second place in the National Secondary Schools Chess Championships.

The Federation expressed gratitude to the visiting officials for facilitating the sessions and to the school for hosting the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing young female talent in chess across Saint Lucia.
