In celebration of World Obesity Day and World Kidney Day 2026, students from Laborie Boys and Laborie Girls Primary Schools participated in an engaging health walk throughout the streets of Laborie.
Equipped with placards and spirited chants, these young health ambassadors delivered vital messages about healthy eating and lifestyles to local residents and businesses.
The event centered around the theme “Twòp Sik Pa Bon,” a rallying call aimed at reducing sugar-sweetened beverages and promoting healthier dietary choices.
As they traversed the village, the students actively shared health messages and interacted with community members and business owners along the route.

“We’re into our third year encouraging students to walk, focusing also on the theme: ‘Twòp Sik Pa Bon’,” said Fabia Campbell from the Ministry of Health. “This initiative promotes the reduction of sugar-sweetened beverages within schools and fosters healthy habits among schoolchildren and, by extension, the wider community.”
Ivonne Barthlemy, Principal of Laborie Boys Primary School, emphasized the importance of educating children about healthy eating, especially given the rising incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Saint Lucia.

“It’s crucial to educate our children so they can share these messages with adults and their parents,” she remarked. “With the high prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, and cancers in society, we must help them understand the importance of healthy living, including eating fruits and staying hydrated.” The Ministry of Health and Nutrition is committed to partnering with schools across Saint Lucia to promote healthy habits among the island’s youth. Investing in the values imparted to children today will contribute to a healthier nation in the future.
