SLFS statement on fire — On the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026, the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) responded to a high-priority distress call involving a structural fire at the Computer World building in Marisule.
Units from the Gros Islet Fire Station were immediately dispatched, with additional backup provided by crews from the Babonneau Fire Station, George Charles Fire Hall, and Fire Service Headquarters.
Upon arrival, fire suppression teams encountered heavy smoke and active flames. Firefighting efforts were complicated by restricted access to the building and the presence of hazardous materials, including chemical storage and energy storage equipment and batteries. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, crews initiated a multi-point attack to bring the blaze under control.
As of Saturday morning, the fire has been contained. However, the building has sustained extensive damage. Crews remain on the scene to manage persistent reignitions and ensure the site is fully cooled.

The Saint Lucia Fire Service extends its sincere gratitude to the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO), LUCELEC, and the general public for their assistance and cooperation during this challenging operation.

The Saint Lucia Fire Service continues to face challenges with new technologies such as lithium-ion cells. The potential for continuous reignition, the limited effects of extinguishing agents and the infiltration of the use, have compounded the risks associated with fire fighting efforts. We continue to ask the public to remain knowledgeable about the use and potential risks asssociated with these new technologies.
