NWU to Host 2026 Annual Congress of Delegates

The National Workers Union (NWU) will be hosting its 2026 Annual Congress of Delegates on Friday February 20, 2026. For this year the Theme selected is “The National Workers Union must continue to defend/protect/advance the economic, social, political and industrial achievements over the many years of its operation”.

The NWU’s Constitution mandates that Delegates from the various branches of the union meet yearly to get a status report on the organization’s development and outlook. This Friday January 20, 2026 the selected Delegates will converge at the Headquarters of the National Workers Union in the Conference Room of the John Burke King Industrial Academy at UNITY HOUSE, #7 Maurice Mason Avenue, in Sans Souci, Castries to begin the Open Session at 9:30 a.m.

Chairperson, Cde Kimani Pompelis will guide the proceedings during the formal Opening. Cde Nnamdi Obodoechina, Central Committee Member and Shop Steward at St. Jude Hospital will invoke God’s blessings. Secretary General, Cde Johann M. Harewood will in his Welcome Address, set the tone for the occasion. Mr. Cletus Springer, Chairman of Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) and Board of Governors of Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC), with his solid background in industrial relations, will deliver the Feature Address. Brief Remarks will also be received from Hon. Emma Hippolyte, as the Minister of Labour. Solidarity Messages from regional and international affiliates and a Vote of Thanks will bring the Open Session to an end.

At the Closing Session which follows, various reports which were delivered, will be recorded and examined and work plans devised for the coming term.
