This marks a historic milestone for Caribbean football.

Cooper, who previously served as Vice President of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) for 13 years, will focus on enhancing regional development and advocating for Caribbean nations within the confederation. His leadership is anticipated to bolster grassroots programs, improve infrastructure, and create more competitive opportunities across the region.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches—set to be hosted by North America—his role will be crucial in elevating Caribbean football on the global stage.

Cooper was elected unopposed during CONCACAF’s 41st Congress held last weekend in Managua, Nicaragua. Last year, he made history by becoming the president of the CFU, a first for Saint Lucian football.

The Congress gathered senior leadership from CONCACAF and delegates from its 41 member associations, celebrating a decade of leadership under CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani.

Montagliani congratulated the six CONCACAF nations already qualified for the World Cup and expressed his best wishes to Jamaica and Suriname as they prepare for the FIFA Play-Off tournament in March. He also praised member associations for their efforts in reshaping and strengthening the foundations of CONCACAF.

“Over the past decade, we rebuilt CONCACAF on stable foundations, allowing us to think long-term, invest confidently, and aim higher than ever,” said Montagliani.

He asserted : “As we head toward 2026, we have much to be proud of, and it is essential to remain united, lead through service, and uphold the integrity that drives our progress.”

During the Congress, member associations approved CONCACAF’s 2026 budget and addressed statutory matters while receiving updates in line with the confederation’s strategic priorities.

As Vice President for the Caribbean, Cooper is set to play a pivotal role in advancing football within the region, advocating for Caribbean nations, and collaborating with fellow council members to enhance development pathways, governance, and competition.

Looking forward, CONCACAF’s schedule is packed with national team and club competitions throughout 2026. Women’s football will also be a highlight, with the Concacaf W Qualifiers continuing and paving the way for the 2026 Concacaf W Championship and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Additionally, youth national teams from the region are gearing up for a full slate of tournaments.

As the president of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc., Cooper has emerged as a strong advocate for grassroots football, with a particular emphasis on nurturing youth talent.

Under his leadership, women’s football has seen significant advancement, underpinned by the empowering initiative “Let Them Play.” The celebration of Women’s Football Month has provided girls and young women from various communities the opportunity to showcase their talent across the island.

The SLFA’s Technical Facility, located in Grand Riviere, plays a crucial role in facilitating training sessions and competitive matches, offering two venues for play.

Recently, the SLFA hosted two FIFA experts for an engaging two-day workshop, focusing on a comprehensive and inclusive Football Development Programme. This initiative aims to further enhance the growth and development of football across all levels in Saint Lucia.
