Gros Islet Under-19 Dominates in Sandals Cup

Gros Islet Under-19 continues to make a significant impact as this season’s SLNCA/SANDALS Under-19 Cup gains momentum.

On Saturday, February 7, Gros Islet registered a commanding 248-run victory over South Castries at the Wenn Playing Field in Mon Repos.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Gros Islet posted an imposing total of 308 all out in 38.4 overs. Jean Claude Emmanuel led the charge with a superb 63, featuring four fours and six sixes.

He received solid contributions from Royston Fannis (46), Kanil Nelson (45), Neil Poyotte (43), Kaleb Charles (23), Nicken Justin (15), and Bjorn Fanis (14), as Gros Islet built a formidable innings.

For South Castries, Nayhiem David was the leading wicket-taker, claiming 3 wickets for 72 runs in 10 overs. Evan Gilbert, Nathaniel Joseph, and Kershawn Gillard each took two wickets.

In response, South Castries struggled against a disciplined bowling attack and were dismissed for just 60 runs in 22.5 overs. Jesse Bernard top-scored with 18 and was the only batter to reach double figures.

Gros Islet’s bowlers were led by Neil Poyotte, who took an impressive 4 wickets for just 19 runs in 9 overs. Daniel Lorde followed with 2 wickets for 2 runs in 2 overs, while Shealawn Daniel captured 2 wickets for 5 runs in 1.5 overs.
Result: Gros Islet Under-19 defeated South Castries by 248 runs.

In other scheduled matches on the day:

– Babonneau vs. Central Castries at the Mindoo Phillip Park (MPP)
– Mon Repos vs. Choiseul at the La Fargue playing field – Mabouya vs. Soufriere at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds (PMG) in Vieux Fort.

In their opening game on January 31 at the MPP, Gros Islet triumphed over Babonneau with a commanding 210-run victory.

After winning the toss, Gros Islet batted first, posting an impressive 245 for 8 in 39 overs, led by Kanil Nelson’s near-century of 99 runs. He received strong support from Jean Claude Emmanuel (47) and Leon Alexander (24).

Babonneau’s bowling was highlighted by Rahyeem Leon, who took 3 for 8 in just 2 overs.

However, their batting faltered, collapsing for a mere 35 runs in 15 overs. Torres George was the only player to reach double figures with 10 runs. Neil Poyotte shone with the ball for Gros Islet, taking 5 for 10 in 7 overs, while Kaleb Charles added 3 for 18.

Result: Gros Islet U19 defeated Babonneau U19 by 210 runs.
