Alfred continued her impressive buildup to next month’s World Indoor Championships with a remarkable performance, sprinting to a world-leading time of 6.99 seconds. This victory not only earned her gold in a competitive field but also broke the previous meet record of 7.02 seconds, set in 2012 by Tiana Madison of the USA.
The USA’s Jacious Spears claimed the silver medal with a time of 7.03 seconds, while Jamaican sprinter Brianna Lyston took home bronze in 7.07 seconds.
Earlier in the preliminary rounds, the 24-year-old Alfred clocked 7.01 seconds to win Heat 2, setting a new meet record at that stage.
With this performance, Alfred now holds the three fastest times in the event for the year. She has run under seven seconds on six occasions, the second most in history behind the world record holder Irina Privalova, who achieved this feat 13 times.
By becoming the first woman to break the 7-second barrier in nearly two years, Alfred’s victory not only secured her the gold but also reaffirmed her status as the reigning Olympic 100m champion.
This achievement highlights her elite speed and consistency on the indoor track, positioning her as a top contender for upcoming international competitions.
