WIPO Engages Caribbean Sports Stakeholders to Champion Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Beyond the Game

The Government of Saint Lucia in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is intensifying national awareness of the critical role of intellectual property (IP) rights in the sports industry, with a two-day conference set to take place on August 27 and 28, 2025, at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days.

The initiative, supported by the Registry of Companies and Intellectual Property under the Attorney General’s Chambers of Saint Lucia, The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism Information, Broadcasting, Culture and Creative Industries will bring together local and international experts, athletes, sports officials, entrepreneurs, and legal professionals. The conference aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to leverage intellectual property in key areas such as branding, licensing, merchandising, and media rights.

Under the theme “Beyond the Game: Innovation, IP and Sports,” the conference will bring together stakeholders from Saint Lucia’s sports, business, and creative sectors to explore how intellectual property can be harnessed to generate value, recognition, and economic opportunities within the country’s vibrant sports ecosystem.

Officials acknowledge that Saint Lucia boasts immense sporting talent, and that intellectual property provides a vital pathway for athletes and institutions to secure lasting value. WIPO says the conference reflects their ongoing commitment to helping stakeholders protect and monetize their creativity and talent through strategic use of intellectual property.
