Reports circulating in the media locally suggest that the St. Lucia Labour Party’s Babonneau Representative Virginia Albert-Poyotte is likely no longer the favoured candidate heading into the island’s next general elections.
Albert-Poyotte, who is currently the Public Service Minister, could not be reached for comment on Friday.
Sources reportedly close to the situation suggest that a decision on a possible replacement was made earlier this week after considering two alternatives. The two possible alternatives are from the Babonneau constituency according to reports.
The St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has been contacted for confirmation or clarification, however, has declined to comment suggesting that the matter will be addressed in due course.
Virginia Albert- Poyotte took office on July 26, 2021, as the new Minister for the Public Service, Home Affairs, Labour and Gender Affairs of Saint Lucia. Albert- Poyotte taught at the Babonneau and the Laguerre Primary Schools from 1971 to 1988 and also served as a principal of the Fond Assau Combined School from 1988 to 2005. She served as the President of the Saint Lucia Teachers Union for six years.
Albert-Poyotte is an advocate for social justice, human and trade union rights, quality education, gender equality and equity. She is also an activist for basic community facilities and an advocate for better pay and improved working conditions for teachers.
She specializes in education policy, gender relations, project planning and management, life-long learning, capacity building and trade unionism.
