Phillip Marcellin Grounds was the venue for last weekend’s exciting St. Lucia Semi Professional Football League {SPFL} games.
In Saturday’s first encounter northern heavyweights Gros Islet was defeated by Choiseul 2 -1 in what was described as a major upset. Choiseul shocked their opponent with two first half goals, Darrel Francis in the 8th minute and Hanif Antoine in the 38th minute left Gros Islet asking questions of their performance. Gros Islet’s bid to salvage points saw Jahlil Evens pulling one back in the 82nd minutes but it was a case too little too late.
Saturday’s Second encounter ended in another shock result. Dennery fell to Canaries 3-2 after initially going one up in the 12th minute through Jamie Prospere. The half time team talk worked wonder and Canaries immerged after the break with renewed vigor to register 3 goals. The goal scorers were Eilas Jones {53}, McCarther Louis {56} and Cassius Joseph {64}.
Sunday’s matches were a bit more predictable. A strengthened Mabouya Valley team had to fend off last year’s outstanding performers in Tier 2 South Castries to share the spoils at 1-1. A 55th minute goal from Kallis Mondesir of South Castries was chalked off by National Player Canius Sandiford through a 80th minute penalty.

Rounding off the weekend, two late goals saw Vieux Fort South beat Soufriere 2-0. Shan Alfred and Shayan Lionel netted their contributions in the 70th and 83rd minutes respectively. Vieux Fort could have made a mess of it after numerous missed opportunities.
Midweek matches will see Desruisseaux play Laborie and Micoud take on Anse La Raye at the Desruisseaus Playing Field while Marchand will come up against The National Under20 team and Soufriere and Mabouya Valley do battle at the Phillip Marcellin Ground on Friday.
