Saint Lucia will host the 52nd edition of the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships on September 26-27 at the Pavilion in Rodney Bay.

During a recent media launch at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. Headquarters in La Clery, it was confirmed that the event will be organized by the Saint Lucia Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (SLABBFA).

Over 200 athletes from 30 territories will compete on the region’s top amateur bodybuilding stage.

Key figures in attendance included Minister for Youth Development and Sports Kenson Casimir, SLABBFA President Jacquline Trim, SLABBFA First Vice President Monica Dudley, SLOC Board Member for Bodybuilding Cornelius Breen, and former SLABBFA President Edmund Sidonie.

President Trim emphasized that the championship transcends mere competition; it is a celebration of discipline, determination, and the pursuit of excellence. Bodybuilding has evolved to incorporate new categories, including Men’s Fit Model, Women’s Fit Model, Acrobatics and Artistic Displays, Men’s Physique, Bikini, Bikini Wellness, Fitness Challenges, Wheelchair, and Differently Abled divisions.

Furthermore, the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) will introduce the Children’s Fitness Category (ages 6-14) and Junior Fitness Category (ages 15-23), which will highlight inspiring stories and impressive physiques while showcasing the limitless potential of the human spirit.

Minister Casimir strongly supports the championship and its organizers, congratulating SLABBFA President Trim and her team for their unwavering dedication.

“Saint Lucia has consistently proven its ability to host major international sporting events. From the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2024 to welcoming FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his team for the CONCACAF 40th Congress, our island is firmly establishing itself on the global stage,” he remarked.

He also asserted, “Hosting the CAC Bodybuilding Championships demonstrates our commitment to sports development.”

Minister Casimir acknowledged the financial challenges faced by bodybuilding athletes, highlighting the high costs associated with the sport. He made it clear that the ministry understands these difficulties and has held extensive discussions within its management unit to identify better support for athletes.

Casimir added, “We are committed to providing assistance wherever possible.”

He praised the SLOC for its role in securing funding for the championships and reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to provide technical support to all sports federations on the island.
