
Authorities are investigating two separate fatal incidents that occurred earlier this week including a suspected drowning in Bexon and a police-involved shooting in Choiseul.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, at approximately 2:56 p.m., officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to a report of a suspected drowning near a bridge in Crown-lands, Bexon. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a male, later identified later as 43-year-old Wilter Joseph, also known as “Ti Cout” or “Yardman,” of Crown-lands, Bexon. The victim was transported to the Owen King European Hospital (OKEU), where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled to determine the cause of death, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
In a separate incident on Monday, August 18, 2025, at about 11:25 a.m., officers from the Choiseul Police Station responded to a report of a shooting and chopping incident at Devil’s Bridge, Choiseul. Preliminary investigations indicate that a police officer, accompanied by his teenage son, was confronted by a male assailant armed with a cutlass and knife. During the ensuing struggle, the officer discharged his service-issued firearm. The assailant sustained injuries and was transported to St. Jude Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The officer sustained injuries during the altercation and received treatment at St. Jude Hospital; he is scheduled to undergo surgery at a later date. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist in the investigations.
