Effective August 5, Saint Lucia is issuing 10-year passports, replacing the previous 5-year validity period.
This change was announced by the government with no increase in associated fees, streamlining travel document validity for citizens.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre confirmed this essential shift during the 2025-2026 Budget Address. As of August 5, the Immigration Department officially transitioned from issuing 5-year passports to 10-year validity passports, while maintaining the current passport fee structure.
This upgrade is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery within the immigration department.
According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) , this policy is designed to deliver concrete benefits to Saint Lucian citizens by significantly reducing the frequency of renewals and associated costs.
Over a decade, passport holders will only need to apply once, resulting in substantial time and financial savings for individuals and families. The introduction of the 10-year passport underscores the Government’s resolute commitment to modernizing public services, enhancing citizen convenience, and fulfilling its promises to the people of Saint Lucia.
From August 5 onward, all passports issued to individuals aged 18 and over will carry the extended 10-year validity. For minors under 18, passport validity remains at 5 years, in accordance with international standards.
Key Details of the New Passport Policy
– Adults (18 and older): Passports are valid for 10 years. – Minors (under 18): Passport validity remains at 5 years. – Fees: No increase.
The government’s aim is clear: improve convenience and cut renewal costs. This new policy will significantly benefit frequent travelers and international investors, including those who obtained citizenship through Saint Lucia’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program.
As stated by an OPM official: “The introduction of the 10-year passport reflects the Government’s broader commitment to modernizing public services, improving citizen convenience, and delivering on its promises to the people of Saint Lucia.”
This update also aligns Saint Lucia with global passport standards, as many countries already offer 10-year validity for adult passports. The document will continue to adhere to the standard CARICOM passport format.
