The Net Blazers Basketball Club has marked its fifth anniversary, showcasing an unwavering commitment to youth development and community empowerment through sports.

During a ceremony held at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Headquarters on August 27, the Club distributed basketballs to schools and organizations across the island and announced ambitious plans for the remainder of the year.
Founded in 2020 as a modest camp for 30 girls, Net Blazers has rapidly transformed into Saint Lucia’s largest grassroots basketball program.
Club President and Founder Mia George asserted, “Five years ago, we initiated this journey with a vision to create a safe space through basketball.”
She firmly stated, “Today, we proudly stand as Saint Lucia’s largest grassroots basketball program. Basketball embodies the spirit of sharing: sharing the ball, sharing the court, and sharing opportunities. By placing these basketballs in the hands of young players, we are not just strengthening the game but inspiring the next generation of leaders.”
The Club presented basketballs to a diverse array of organizations, including the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation, East Coast Academy, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Entrepot Secondary School, Soufriere Kings, West Coast Academy, and Ali’d’s Fitness, all of which are crucial in nurturing youth talent and expanding access to the sport.
One of Net Blazers’ most impactful initiatives, Bringing Buckets Home, has already nurtured over 100 young athletes from seven primary schools in its inaugural year.
With plans to continue into its second year, the program will expand its reach and resources, solidifying the Club’s commitment to grassroots development.
The Club has also laid out several assertive initiatives aimed at amplifying its impact:
– Expansion into Laborie, spearheaded by Club Secretary Ramani Lewis.
– A Coaches Clinic in September 2025 designed to build coaching capacity and ensure sustainable program growth.
– Strong support for school-based programs and tournaments that will significantly broaden youth participation across the island.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer Nikaela Khodra stressed the critical importance of media coverage in maintaining momentum: “As we celebrate five successful years, media coverage is essential. It highlights the tangible impacts being made on the ground, inspires parents and athletes to get involved, and clearly illustrates to sponsors why their support is vital. Visibility drives growth, and growth guarantees that our young people continue to thrive.”
