Lobster Fishery Season Now Open

.

The annual lobster fishing season officially opened on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and will remain open until Saturday, February 28, 2026. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development has reminded the public of the strict regulations governing the harvesting and sale of lobsters during this period.

According to the Fisheries Regulations (Chapter 7.15 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia), individuals are prohibited from catching or selling undersized lobsters, lobsters carrying eggs, or lobsters that are molting. Additionally, it is illegal to remove eggs from lobsters, or to spear, hook, or otherwise impale them for sale.

A lobster is considered undersized if its carapace length measures less than 9.5 centimeters (3.75 inches), or if, when tailless, it weighs less than 340 grams (12 ounces).

Anyone found in contravention of these regulations faces a maximum fine of EC$5,000.

The Ministry has called for public cooperation in ensuring the sustainability of the lobster industry. Citizens are encouraged to report violators to the Marine Police Unit, District Police Stations, or the Department of Fisheries at 468-4143/4135.

The Ministry emphasized that responsible fishing practices are key to protecting marine resources and ensuring the livelihood of fishers and coastal communities.
