The Phillip Marcellin Grounds was the venue for surprises and glorious uncertainty in the ongoing St. Lucia Semi Professional Football Tournament over the past weekend.

Gros Islet suffered a second consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of a well oiled Vieux Fort South outfit coached by former national footballer Jamil Joseph. It was a goal fest with eight goals being scored in the encounter, for a 5-3 Vieux Fort South win. Gros Islet opened the scoring in the first minute of play through Josh George however a response came from Obafemi Poyotte in the 15th and 19th minutes with a 37th minute strike coming from Taj Constantine to close the half at 3-1. Ridel Stanislaus pilled one back for Gros Islet in the 56th minute but that was cancelled off by Khan Joseph in the 86th. Josh George scored his second in the 88th but that again was cancelled off through a strike from Moses Henry in the 90th minute.

In other SPFL action, last year’s SPFL losing finalist Central Castries drew 1-1 with Canaries. Canaries went down 1-0 through an own goal by McCathur Louis in the 16th minute and despite going a man down, Central Castries managed to hold on to the first half lead. However, despite a solid second half start from Central Castries Donovan JnBaptiste put his team square in the 5th minute to share the points.

The weekend also saw Choiseul draw 3-3 with Dennery, Mabouya Valley beating Soufriere 2-1 and Marchand failing to turn up for their match against a National Under 20 team yet to lose a game.
