The National Under 15 Football Team is heading back to St. Lucia this weekend after participating in the 2025 CONCACAF Under 15 Boys Tournament in Curacao.
The St. Lucian youngsters started the tournament on the front foot beating a strong Grenadian team 1-0 at the Stadion Jean Francisca on Monday August 4th. The lone goal came from Kai Russel who plays with Reading FC in the UK. The following day team SLU suffered a crushing blow after leading neighboring Martinique 1-0 for most of the game through a goal from Randal Monroe . The French team registered two goals in the second half, one in extra time, to come out 2-1 winners. On Wednesday August 6th the team SLU needed to register a win against French Guiana which was always going to be a tough task. The teams played to a goalless draw which left team SLU lacking the requisite points to move to the next round. Of interesting note, Grenada beat Martinique in their final match.
Meanwhile, to determine the overall rankings across the 4 groups, a weighted points system was applied. Each team’s total points at the end of the group stage were divided by the number of matches played. This approach was taken because of the league’s format which featured two groups of 4 teams and two groups of 3 teams. The weighted system is believed to be a fair and balanced comparison across all groups. Based on this calculation team St. Lucia was scheduled to play French Guiana a second time. On this occasion the French team came out 2-1 winners. For the local youngster it was a tournament of missed chances.
