A delegation of Saint Lucian music teachers returned to Saint Lucia on July 12th after successfully completing the First Academic Musical Training Workshop in Caracas, Venezuela.

This initiative, part of a bilateral cooperation program promoted by ALBA-TCP, is designed to effectively train educators. The project decisively expands pedagogical capacities in the musical domain and fortifies exchange networks between institutions in both countries.

The workshop took place at the renowned Center for Social Action for Music, the main venue of Venezuela’s National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs.

With over 50 years of experience, El Sistema stands as an exemplary model of music education with social impact, internationally recognized for its ability to train musicians and transform lives.

Over the course of two weeks, participants engaged in specialized training that covered choral conducting, music pedagogy for early and special education, choral techniques, and inclusive teaching strategies. This rigorous academic environment emphasized collaboration, inclusion, and the social mission of artistic education.

Upon their arrival at the George FL Charles International Airport, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Saint Lucia, Leiff Escalona, warmly welcomed the teachers and commended their dedication to enhancing music education in the country.

Participants described the experience as profoundly transformative, underscoring the trainers’ exceptional human quality, the program’s inclusive approach, and the methodological precision that defined each session. They returned with renewed ideas, innovative pedagogical tools, and strong motivation to implement and expand upon what they have learned.

This workshop represents the first phase of a broader academic exchange program slated for 2025, intended to have a significant impact on music education in Saint Lucia.

This program will encompass primary and secondary schools as well as Special Education institutions, with the primary goal of equipping trainers to transfer updated methodologies and innovative approaches across diverse educational contexts.

The project enjoys robust support from the ALBA Bank, the Executive Secretariat of ALBA-TCP, the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Ministry of Education of Saint Lucia, the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF), and the Embassy of Venezuela in Castries.

This joint action demonstrates a firm commitment to cultural cooperation as a transformative tool.

Venezuela and Saint Lucia reaffirm their dedication to regional integration grounded in equity, access to education, and the power of art as a vehicle for human development and social justice.
