The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, on 7 March 2025 hosted a closing ceremony for the United States Air Force Southern Medical Mission, Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team 2025 (LAMAT-25) at the conference room of Sandals Halcyon.
The event served as a platform for local officials to express deep appreciation for the dedication and expertise of the LAMAT-25 team in delivering essential medical assistance to Saint Lucians.
In collaboration with Taiwan’s highly skilled medical team, this initiative provided critical healthcare services to the people of Saint Lucia from February 25 to March 8, 2025.
“The Government of Saint Lucia extends its sincere gratitude to the United States and Taiwan for their unwavering commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare services. Through surgical interventions and specialized treatments, this mission significantly contributed to improving the well-being of many Saints Lucians,” Stated the Ministry of Health in a press release yesterday.
Building upon the success of previous missions, LAMAT-25 deployed a multidisciplinary team of over 43 health professionals, including specialists in vascular surgery, general surgery, cardiology, anesthesiology, respiratory therapy, biomedical technology, and dentistry. This collaborative effort not only provided life-saving medical care but also facilitated training and knowledge-sharing, further enhancing Saint Lucia’s healthcare system.
This was the fourth U.S. Medical Mission to the island.
“The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs remains committed to fostering international partnerships that strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to specialized medical services for the people of Saint Lucia. The successful completion of LAMAT-25 underscores the power of collaboration in addressing healthcare needs and advancing medical excellence,” the Ministry stated.
