The Saint Lucia Vendors Association recently held its biennial general meeting, which included the election of a new executive body.

Peter “Ras Ipa” Isaac, a long-serving board member and vocal advocate for vendors, was re-elected to serve another term as President.

The new executive committee includes:

– President: Peter “Ras Ipa” Isaac
-Vice President: Nicole Joseph
– Secretary: Vernessa Raveneau
– Assistant Secretary: Amanda Nicholas
– Treasurer: Sylvia Calderon
– Public Relations Officer (PRO): Christina Duncan
– Trustees: Asha Week, Lisa St. Ages, and Charmine Emmanuel.

Commenting on the low turnout among members, Isaac noted that although the Vendors Association’s WhatsApp platform indicated at least eighty-two people were interested, they only managed to surpass the minimum requirement for a quorum by six members, as specified in the association’s constitution.

He expressed his disappointment with the level of participation on social media.

“What a shame. If there had been an announcement about vouchers or any form of income support, the hall would have been full, including vendors who are not members of the association,” Isaac said.

He said that some members may have opted out because they had to be financially eligible to vote in the election process, leading them to stay away.

One vendor commented on the situation, expressing disappointment with the turnout but wishing the new executive all the best: “There is a lot of work to be done. The association is very important to us. Whenever you need my support, I am willing to help.”
