Saint Lucia’s football fraternity and supporters celebrated the remarkable achievements of their teams and outstanding players at last Friday’s Semi-Professional Football League (SPFL) Awards ceremony—an undeniable landmark for the country.

Numerous players, coaches, technical units, and corporate sponsors received commendation for their pivotal roles in the professional development of football on the island.

Youth Development and Sports Minister Kenson Casimir emphasized the event’s significance, declaring it a celebration of dedication, teamwork, and passion that has driven the league to success. He asserted that this inaugural SPFL season represents “the most exciting fraternity in all of the sports” in Saint Lucia.

“I am thrilled that the vision we set forth is now fully realized. We made a deliberate choice to invest in the people of this nation, and initiatives like the SPFL demonstrate that this investment is yielding substantial results,” Minister Casimir stated.

He further declared, “The success of this league is a testament to the energy, determination, and commitment exhibited by everyone involved: the athletes, coaches, officials, fans, and supporters.”

The Minister affirmed that the SPFL was established as a robust platform for developing football in Saint Lucia, enhancing opportunities for athletes, fostering community engagement, and promoting the positive values that sports embody.

Casimir expressed confidence that the thrilling matches witnessed throughout the season signify that “we are unequivocally on the right path.”

The Sports Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the growth of sports in the country. “The value of sports transcends mere entertainment; it serves as a powerful tool for improving health, engaging youth, building social cohesion, and strengthening our national identity,” he said.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Dr. Uralis Delaire, declared that the establishment of the SPFL is a transformative venture that will reshape the football landscape in Saint Lucia.

Dr. Delaire characterized this initiative as a “powerful movement” poised to redefine sports in the country. She emphasized “the power of football” as a catalyst for positive change, stating that sports serve not only for competition but also as a platform to inspire, empower, and uplift both players and the broader community.

Dr. Delaire pointed out the vast potential for personal, technical, and economic development, alongside the urgent need to upgrade sports facilities to support professional growth and provide clear career pathways for athletes.
