THESE MEETINGS AIM TO ENGAGE BOTH THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS IN DISCUSSIONS ABOUT PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE LEGISLATION

.

The Energy and Public Utilities Division within the Department of Infrastructure, Ports, and Transport will be holding a series of public sensitization meetings focused on the draft Electricity Bill and its associated regulations.  These meetings aim to engage both the public and private sector organizations in discussions about proposed changes to the legislation governing the electricity sector in Saint Lucia.

This critical regulation outlines the rights and responsibilities of electricity consumers, operators and the regulator.  It covers essential matters such as billing accuracy, service quality, and dispute resolution. By emphasizing fairness and transparency, the Legislation and its Regulations ensures that all consumers are treated equitably and promote  healthy competition within the  electricity market. They address key issues such as market entry, pricing transparency, and prevention of anti-competitive practices. By fostering a competitive environment for independent power producers, Saint Lucia aims to enhance efficiency and encourage innovation in the sector.  These rules govern the licensing process for electricity providers. Whether it’s the utility company or an independent power producer, obtaining a license ensures compliance with safety standards, technical requirements, and operational guidelines. Licensing plays a crucial role in maintaining a reliable and secure electricity supply.

The Energy and Public Utilities Division invites all stakeholders to participate in the upcoming public meetings. These sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss the introduction of the new Electricity Act.  The meetings are scheduled as follows:
