The late Honourable Arnott Francois Valmont’s (C.B.E, S.L.C) contribution to the business, economic, and social fabric of Saint Lucia is unparalleled. He dedicated his life to the development of commerce and through these efforts, created employment and empowered scores of Saint Lucians.
Mr. Valmont’s establishment of numerous diverse enterprises demonstrated his commitment to discipline and his desire for success. His ventures such as A.F. Valmont & Co., Atwell Dalgliesh & Co. (St. Lucia) Ltd., and Windward Island Gases, have employed hundreds of Saint Lucians and made valuable contributions to economic growth. Notably, he served as an agent for international manufacturers like Yamaha and Polski Fiat.
His leadership as President of the Chamber of Commerce was transformative, setting the foundation for modernizing business practices in Saint Lucia.
As a former member of several social clubs such as the Castries City Club and Rotary Club, Mr. Valmont worked towards building a stronger community. He was selfless. He assisted in the payment of civil servants’ salaries during a critical part of our nation’s history. His charity extended to schools, training programs, and soft loans to aspiring entrepreneurs when traditional banking systems were inaccessible.
Mr. Valmont’s legacy, as a role model to young entrepreneurs and a staunch nationalist, will continue to inspire generations to come. Saint Lucia has lost a giant. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts. May his family find strength during this time, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
