As part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the courage of children battling cancer, those who have survived, and those who have tragically succumbed to this devastating illness. Under the theme “Reducing the Survival Gap,” the Ministry seeks to raise awareness, advocate for improved treatment options, and support affected families throughout Saint Lucia.
Throughout September, the Ministry will focus on celebrating advances in childhood cancer treatment, remembering the children we’ve lost, and rallying new advocates to join the fight against childhood cancer. This initiative aims to ensure that every child has the opportunity to live a long, healthy, and fulfilling life, free from the ravages of this disease.
Candy Sexius, Family Life Educator in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs shared the Ministry’s ongoing efforts during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. “Once again this year, we have reached out to the family of one of the children who was lost to childhood cancer. We’ve invited organizations, the public, and schoolchildren to wear gold or yellow in their honour. Additionally, we have organized a Church Service of Hope and Healing at the Deliverance Baptist Church in Ciceron at 11:00 am,” stated Sexius.
The Ministry’s initiatives for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month offer strength and support to the families and friends who remain unwavering in their care for children throughout their cancer journeys. This is a time for the nation to reflect on the lives lost and renew its commitment to eradicating cancer as we know it, ensuring every child has the chance to reach their full potential.
