On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, H.E. Peter Chia-Yen Chen, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Saint Lucia, joined Hon. Jeremiah Norbert, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities and Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North, for a site visit of the new Patience Early Childhood Development Centre in Micoud North.
The Patience Early Childhood Development Centre is currently under reconstruction following an early morning fire which destroyed the previous building in February 2020, prompting its rebuilding phase.
Earlier this year, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) contributed toward the rebuilding of the Patience Early Childhood Development Centre, and the aim of last Wednesday’s site visit by Ambassador Chen and Hon. Norbert was to get a firsthand update on the progress of the project.
When completed, the new Patience Early Childhood Development Centre will be equipped with a kitchen, classroom, restroom, and an accessible ramp especially for persons with wheelchairs, which fits into the portfolio of the Ministry of Persons with Disabilities.
Wednesday’s site visit to the Patience Early Childhood Development Centre was preceded by a short handover ceremony held at the Saint Lucia Network of Rural Women Producers (Micoud Cluster) building in Anse Ger, Micoud. At that ceremony, Ambassador Chen joined Hon. Norbert for the handover of 450-gallon water tanks and drip lines to ten farmers from the Latille Farmers Group. The water tanks and drip lines were donated by the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM).
