SAINT Lucia is set to host its first-ever Youth Karate Kata Tournament organized by the Zanshin Karate Dojo, one of the prominent Shotokan karate schools in the country.
The tournament will take place on tomorrow, Sunday at the Beausejour Indoor Facility from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This inaugural event will feature male and female karate athletes showcasing their skills in karate kata, which involves choreographed combat techniques.
The main goal of the tournament is to provide young karate athletes with a taste of competitive karate while also promoting karate as a recreational activity for children and youth.
Over 60 participants aged between 7 and 15 have already signed up for what promises to be an exciting competition. The majority of the participants are students from Dame Pearlette Primary School, Carmen Renee Primary School, and Saint Joseph’s Convent.
The tournament will be overseen by local Shotokan and other martial arts Senseis, with Sensei Ezra Jn. Baptiste serving as Tournament Director.
In addition to the competition, there will be demonstrations by martial arts practitioners. The general public is encouraged to attend and support these young athletes as they strive to develop good character through martial arts.
