Since its inauguration in January, the Connect Caribe ferry service has captured the attention of stakeholders eagerly anticipating the commencement of operations. This private-sector-led initiative aims to transform maritime logistics and enhance trade facilitation throughout the Caribbean.

Scheduled to begin operating in the final quarter of this year, Connect Caribe seeks to create a multitude of employment opportunities across the region. At a recent stakeholder consultation forum held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Chairman and CEO Ambassador Andre Thomas provided reporters with a comprehensive update on the ferry service’s progress.

Ambassador Thomas expressed confidence that preparations are proceeding according to plan. The project’s initial phase is expected to generate 185 jobs, with robust recruitment efforts already underway. A recent recruitment fair attracted over 450 participants eager to explore job prospects.

Collaboration with CARICOM’s private sector organization remains a priority, emphasizing the service’s potential impact on businesses and individuals across the region. Dr. Thomas assured stakeholders that the cargo platform is fully prepared for launch, complete with proprietary software to facilitate widespread delivery.

Significant strides have also been made in e-commerce solutions, with dedicated panels actively developing innovative approaches. Ambassador Thomas praised stakeholder engagement as “wonderful” and “excellent,” emphasizing the need to demystify the project for all involved. The company’s connections with key players throughout the region will play a crucial role in its success.

Drawing an analogy from football, Ambassador Thomas highlighted the logistical challenge ahead. Connect Caribe aims to unite all concerned parties through collaborative efforts akin to a soccer team, ensuring a seamless transition into full operation.
