A significant milestone has been achieved in support of at-risk youth in the unveiling of the Youth Empowerment Network Project (YENP), a transformative initiative aimed at nurturing the potential of young individuals facing adversities.
This initiative targets aspiring youth, young leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs between the ages of 16-35 with a special focus on at-risk male and youth from marginalized communities.
In collaboration with the BYBT Barbados, the Dominica Youth Business Trust, local partners and stakeholders, YENP has been meticulously curated to address the unique challenges faced by at-risk youth in our communities. By offering a coordinated, comprehensive programme and support system, we aspire to cultivate a nurturing environment where every young person feels valued, supported, and empowered to pursue their dreams, hopes and aspirations.
“At-risk youth are often faced with numerous obstacles that can hinder their personal and professional development,” said Fabian Isaac, Coordinator, Saint Lucia Youth Business Trust. “Through this project, we aim to break down those barriers and harness the energy of youth towards more productive activities and support their contribution towards the development of their communities.”
Key components of the Youth Empowerment Network Project include:
• Skills Development Workshops: Workshops and training sessions focused on essential life skills such as personal development, problem solving, healthy lifestyles and workplace success, to equip youth with the skills they need to succeed.
• Business Development Workshops: Workshop series which focuses on providing the necessary skills to initiate and sustain a business. The training is designed to ensure that the participants make a successful transition from the development of the business idea to the successful completion of a business plan.
• Mentorship Program: Matching at-risk youth with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support, and encouragement as they navigate life’s challenges.
• Business Support/Aftercare Services: These services provide much needed-hand holding support to beneficiaries. This assistance helps ensure the establishment and sustainability of the businesses.
• Psycho-Social Support: These services will be provided in order to address the ongoing psychological and social problems that many vulnerable youth experiences.
• Community Engagement: Collaborating with government organizations, NGO’s, businesses and community leaders to create a supportive network for at-risk youth and foster a sense of belonging and community pride.
SLYBT recognizes that every young person is unique, and as such, our programs are tailored to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of our participants. Whether they aspire to enter the workforce or explore entrepreneurial endeavours, we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to turn dreams into reality.
