Patrons were promised a transcendental journey into God’s presence from start to finish at this year’s Jazz and Arts Festival and that’s what they received.
Dubbed ‘Kingdom Night’, this soul-stirring gospel extravaganza held Wednesday at the Pigeon Island National Landmark could more be attributed to the local talent like Urban Praise, Tabitha C Prospere, Adoration and Praise and Nigela St Clair-Daniel.
Emceed by locals Emrand Henry and Chocolate Berthier, local gospel performances set the stage alight with their vibrancy and dynamic music.
Carlene Davis, a well-known gospel artiste delivered a wide range of musical genres encompassing reggae, soca beats and divine praises.
After performing some of her most beloved songs (most sweetly ), Marvia Providence took the musical tempo up a notch with a dynamic presentation-and there was no holding back.
‘Hear My Cry’, ‘Warrior’, ‘Anointed’, etc., had the crowd on their feet as both young and old could not resist the urge to dance and sing along to the Caribbean beats. And patrons continued dancing along as Providence lit up her stage with more upbeat numbers.
Despite some criticisms about the flow of his piece, Donnie McClurkin remained committed throughout his performance, however he failed to live up to expectations.
Though he sang a handful of hits, McClurkin ultimately struggled to keep the crowd’s attention and that was solidified further when individuals left the Landmark in droves even before his performance was over.
But for those who remained ‘til the end, McClurkin’s performance was more than enough. Through it all, the artiste sang devotedly without faltering.
McClurkin’s back-up singers joined him for an immersive finale towards the end.
