West Indies junior player Tarrrique Edward has been appointed captain of the Saint Lucia National Under-19 Cricket Team to compete in the 2024 Windward Islands Winlott 50 Over Cricket Tournament, which will be held in Dominica from April 7 to 14.
The full squad is as follows:
Theo Edward, Khan Elcock, David Naitram, Jonathan Daniel, Sachin Ceephal, Tarrique Edward (captain), Steven Abraham (wkt), Royce Paul, Lee John, Isiah Jones, Kevin Gassie, Shawnil Edward (vice-captain), Aaron Joseph and Jeandell Cyril.
The reserves are: Leon Alexander, Kensley Paul, Jude Joseph and Davyn Forde.
In a demonstration of support for its seven selectees on the national team, the Gros Islet Cricket Association/ Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Programme extended hearty congratulations to the players.
In an online post, coach Alton Crafton stated that GICA Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Programme “wishes you all major success during the tournament. We feel very confident that under the leadership of West Indies Under 19 player Tarrique Edward Saint Lucia will defend its Championship Trophy successfully.”
He noted that “Hard work pays off”, and urged the young players to continue working diligently, be disciplined and enjoy the game.
GICA players include Edward, Daniel, Elcock, Paul, John, Cyril, and Jones. Reserved players include Alexander and Forde.
