BY VOICE Reporter

Central Castries Mindoo Heritage emerged champions of the 2024 Dream 11 St. Lucia T10 Blast Tournament with an emphatic victory over Mon Repos Stars at the Philip Marcellin Grounds (PMG), on Monday.

Skipper Stephen Naitram played a pivotal role in obtaining the victory for his team as he led the innings with a sturdy, yet aggressive knock. Naitram and Ackeem Auguste featured in a pulverising second wicket stand of 91 off 40 deliveries.

Naitram scored 64 off 26 balls (4×4, 6×6) and Auguste 39 off 20 (3×4, 3×6) to leave Mon Repos shell-shocked.

Player-of-the-Match Naitram was the main stay of the innings and together with Auguste they set up a formidable total with none of the other batters reaching double figures.

Mon Repos was set a daunting task of 146 to win and despite an effort of 37 from just 16 balls by Keon Gaston, they were always struggling to keep up with the required scoring rate, finishing on 104 all out to lose by 41 runs.

Right-arm Fast bowler, Tyler Sookwa was on song, picking up 4 for 18, while Dillan John captured 2 for 19.

Meanwhile, Gros Islet Cannon Blasters ended in third position as they beat Soufriere Sulphur City Stars in the Third-Place playoffs.

In a low-scoring encounter, Soufriere made a reasonable start as openers Julian Sylvester and Junior Henry put together 20 from just two overs. After five overs they had progressed to 45 for 1 before the inform Henry was dismissed for 36 off 20 balls (3×4, 3×6).

Bradley Tisson added to the score with a blistering 22 off 12 (3×6) that included clobbering Isaiah Jones for 21 in the seventh over. Darvin Forde (3 for 11) and Jeandelle Cyril (2 for 16) then strangled Soufriere’s attempt to get quick runs and in the end, they could only reach 87 for 7.

Gros Islet made a disastrous start chasing a small target of 88, while losing skipper Kimani Melius and Dominic Auguste – both without scoring to Dalius Monrose in the opening over.

Noelle Leo (18 from 14 balls) and Tarrique Edward (29 from 21) found runs hard to come by and when both were dismissed Soufriere appeared to be on top. However, with 15 required from the final over, Player-of-the-Match, Tyrel Chicot became Gros Islet’s last-gasp hero as he wrapped up a four-wicket victory by cracking 16 (which included two sixes) off the first five deliveries to finish the game with one ball remaining.
