Last Sunday (February 25) Voltage MMA+ in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Mixed Martial Arts Federation hosted a Striking Seminar at the Cobra Karate training facility in Monchy, Gros Islet. The event focused on improving the overall striking capabilities of local MMA athletes.
The seminar was headed by Kobe Bowen of Barbados, a professional fighter, undefeated mixed martial artist, bare knuckle Boxer, kickboxing champion, Sanda Gold Medalist, and (most recently) karate combat fighter.
Bowen was assisted by head coach of Voltage MMA and Federation president, Volt Murray, who hopes to foster a growing relationship with Barbados combat sports.
According to the organisers, this first-ever Seminar held in Saint Lucia, was a resounding success. It involved the participation of 13 of the island’s combat athletes from various organizations.
The seminar focused on effective kicking and punching, set ups, and combinations “that will help our athletes attain a higher level in the sport.” Bowen also used a series of drills and specifically designed games to create and improve the muscle movements to accommodate these new techniques.
At the end of the seminar, Bowen did a giveaway, awarding one of his most prized possessions to one student. He donated his first pair of karate combat gloves, which he used at his very first appearance in that competition. It was truly an honor.
Murray also gifted Bowen a trophy to honor his contribution to combat sports in the Caribbean and Saint Lucia.
Congratulations to Voltage MMA but this is very bad to post a picture of the deceased Sensei Patrick in the place of mixed martial arts which is not the same as karate. This shows that this editor doesn’t know the difference and doesn’t care. Please look for the correct photo to represent the correct organization.
