Dr. Martinique Ann Sealy, a Saint Lucian scholar, recently achieved a significant milestone by successfully defending her dissertation, titled “Integrating Historically Marginalized Students’ Funds of Knowledge” for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning. This accomplishment signifies the culmination of her journey to earn a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), highlighting her unwavering commitment to advancing education and fostering inclusive learning environments.
Dr. Sealy’s dissertation represents a groundbreaking exploration into the integration of funds of knowledge of historically marginalized students into teaching practices. Following the triumphant defense, Dr. Sealy has assumed the role of Postdoctoral Researcher for the Black EpiSTEMologies NSF Racial Equity in STEM Education Grant at American University in Washington, DC. In this capacity, she will be integrating students’ ecologically based Funds of Knowledge (FoK) with educational knowledge, particularly in scientific language and understanding. Her focus is on critically impacting historically marginalized BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students, placing her at the forefront of educational research and innovation, especially in STEM education.
