AS the SLFA Inc. Island Cup competition gains momentum, some thrilling matches were completed this week.
In a Premier Cup match, on Tuesday, at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, Anse La Raye (ALR) defeated Micoud 3 – 1. Scoring for ALR were Dahmani Butcher in the 28th minute, Ericson Magloire in the 52nd minute and Mc Arthur Louise in the 63rd minute.
Kyron Marcellin scored in the 74th minute from the penalty spot for Micoud.
At Micoud, in the Super Cup, Soufriere defeated Roseau Valley 6 – 3. Scoring for Soufriere were Inanco Sylvester with four goals in the 7th, 15th, 23rd and 2nd minute of added time in the first half, David Nickson 40th minute and Curtly John in the 74th minute.
Scoring for Roseau Valley,were Hermaiel Charlery in the 47th Stephen Valty 48th and Kevin Henry 86th minutes of play..
Babonneau and Central Castries played to a draw (2-2). Scoring for Babonneau were Nathan Weekes in the 32nd and Ferad Placid in the 88th minutes of the game, while Christopher St. Catherine 28th and Zachery Leriche 61st minutes scored for Central Castries.
Meanwhile, the SLFA Inc. Divisional Club competition continued last weekend.
In Div. II, action at the Desruisseaux Playing Field last Saturday resulted in Lancers defeating Diamond ballers 6 – 2.
Lancers goal scorers were Albertini Phillip with a brace ofgoals in the 16th, and 59th minutes, Naile Alexander 40th minute, Shem Ermay 65th minute, Nathan Lamontagne 70th minute and Dennon George 81st minute.
Jesse James and Alson David scored for the Diamond Ballers in the 9th and 74th minutes of the game .
At the Micoud Playing Field, in the Div. 1 competition, B 1 FC and Victory Eagles played to a 1 – 1 draw. Scoring for Victory Eagles was Jenbert Antoine in the 60th minute, while Jushua La Force scored for B 1 FC in the 62nd minute.
Piton Travel Young Stars beat New Generations 2 –1 with goals from Parker Gilbert in the 28th minute and Garvin Reggie in the 61st minute for Young Stars, while Adrian Vitalis scored in the 25th minute for New Generations.
In other updates, in observance and celebration of International Women’s Month under the theme: Let Them Play, the SLFA will host a Senior National Women’s Team Workshop, at its base today (Saturday).
An SLFA official stated that the workshop will be “very interactive”, and will feature speeches from SLFA Inc. President Lyndon Cooper, Ms. Mary Campbell – Women’s Football Coordinator and SLFA Inc. /GS Victor Reid.
Motivational talks will be provided by Ms. Sannyu Issac, GM/ Domino’s Pizza on The Importance of Time, Dr. Natasha Innocent – Medical Doctor on Nutrition – Sustaining the Footballer, Team Building – Ms. Marvel Modeste Lubin /Healthy Lifestyles Programme.
Other events will include – a Panel Discussion on The women’s Football Program / SLFA Inc./ Staff.
Simultaneously, on the day, recognized as the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Football Leagues island wide are set to stage Football League Day highlighting and showcasing women football in the respective districts. This is in accord, in support of the movement to: Let Them Play, with messages from key stakeholders.
