Saint Lucia’s National Women Football team takes on Guadeloupe in their return leg of the CONCACAF Women Gold Cup Qualifiers, on Friday (December1) at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG] from 3.00p.m.
Team Saint Lucia has recorded a measure of success in the competition, so far, and intends to make a determined effort to reach the top.
The technical unit and supplementary staff at the Saint Lucia Football Association [SLFA] base have been putting the players through a well -coordinated and rigid training regime in preparation for the tournament.
The team went into camp, on Tuesday, and are getting set to take on the challenge.
To date, Team Saint Lucia’ s performance in the competition is as follows:
Game #1 vs. Cuba, at the DSCG – Cuba vs. Team SLU 2-1;
Game # 2 vs. Guadeloupe, (away match) – Team SLU vs Guadeloupe 5-1; Arnica Louis netted four goals in that match.
Louis, a prolific striker, has performed in a pivotal role in Saint Lucia’s offensive play, standing out as the only player in the tournament to have scored four goals in a match.
The 18-year-old attacker hails from the community of Marchand, where she is a member of Big Players FC.
Arnica is regarded as “a terrific all-round athlete”; as she won a Table Tennis championship at Ave Maria Girls Primary School, and also competed in track and field after moving on to the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School.
However, football is her true passion. She scored 19 goals in the first four rounds of the 2023 Senior Women’s Football League in Saint Lucia.
On the international scene, Arnica has represented the nation at every age-group from under-14 to National Team. In just her second senior outing, she had a performed remarkably, scoring four goals against Guadeloupe in Guadeloupe.
Arnicka is presently a redshirt freshman at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, USA.
At the start of the campaign, Head coach Trevor “Flecky” Anderson told VOICE SPORTS that the unit is focused on ‘team structure and composition” and using tactical play to match up to their opponents.
Andersson feels the mixture of some seasoned professionals and young players in the camp augurs well for the future development and build-up of the team.
