Saint Lucia Celebrates Jaunty

Jaunty

The music and life of late Saint Lucian Cultural Icon, Martin “Jaunty” Regis will be celebrated over a two day period – Saturday and Sunday, 25th and 26th, November within his home community of La Clery. The celebration will be held under the banner: “One Life to Live”.

Jaunty is recognized as one of St Lucia’s most complete, accomplished and prolific Calypsonian/Entertainer. He was a songwriter, producer and performer of excellence. He had the distinction of having one of his songs – “Bobolist” recorded in three additional languages: Papiamento, Spanish, and French by various artistes. He took his own unique style of St Lucian music far and wide beyond the shores of his native island. He won the Road march title in St Lucia in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1998. Jaunty produced a repertoire of over one hundred (100) songs.

The passing of Jaunty and celebration of his legacy offers an opportunity for young persons and students of culture to review, analyse and learn about the tremendous contribution he made to St Lucian music culture. The Jaunty One Life to Live Planning Committee recommends to the Government of St Lucia that consideration be given to immortalizing this Cultural Icon by naming the La Clery Playing Field or La Clery Square after him.

Jaunty’s family are committed to honouring his legacy by launching a Foundation in his memory. This Foundation will seek to advance the mandate of facilitating the engagement and development of young people in calypso and music art form.

The Planning Committee calls on all media platforms – DJs, Radio and television Stations, the Government National Television Network, Schools and other institutions to feature the work and legacy of Jaunty from Wednesday 22nd, November as we count down to the Grand “One Life to Live Celebration” of our National Cultural Icon, Martin “Jaunty” Regis. The event will be streaming live on YouTube and Facebook via the Party Access platform.
