First-Ever Cricket Hall of Fame to Induct Saint Lucian Player Eugena Gregg 🏏

FORMER West Indies female cricketer and captain of Saint Lucia’s National Women’s Cricket Team, all-rounder Eugena Gregg will be inducted into the Hartford Connecticut Cricket Hall of Fame on October 7th. 

Gregg will be inaugurated for her outstanding contributions to the sport at the 43rd Induction Ceremony, to be held at the Marriott Hotel. She has also been recognised for her input towards the growth and development of the sport, the lives she has impacted, her services to the community, and the many prestigious titles bestowed upon her as a player and administrator.

According to a spokesperson, the Cricket Hall of Fame (First in the World) is a non-profit organization dedicated to cost-sharing development and meaningful support to “our heroes (honorees and inductees) who have contributed to the game of cricket over the years.

“From maintaining the grounds to advancing trusted community engagement and in the true spirit of the game”, she has “also been involved in quality-of-life development activities that their local, urban, rural communities view as important and sustainable.”

Gregg’s other achievements and journey to success include:

– Debut in 1988; she represented Saint Lucia with distinction at the National level, for 20 consecutive years

– Cricketer of the Year in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1993 & 1997

– First Saint Lucian Female to play Cricket World Cup in England, in 1993 and India in 1997

– 1997 – Saint Lucia’s Sports Woman of the Year

– 2006 – President, South Castries Cricket Association (SCCA) all male affiliates

– 2008 – Recipient of the MYDS award for outstanding administrative roles and contributions to the Development of Cricket in Saint Lucia

– 2009 -2012 – Initiation of Cricket Development Programme at UWI Cave Hill Campus (UWI Blackbirds Head Coach and subsequently Manager)

– 2012 – Manager, Saint Lucia’s National Women’s Cricket Teams, Junior and Senior

– 2013- 2019 – Third Vice President Saint Lucia National Cricket Association

– 2017 -2019 – Manger, West Indies Women’s Cricket Team

– 2018 – Post ICC Women’s Stand-Alone World Cup she initiated a Women’s Cricket Development Programme (within the school system)

– 2018 – Inaugural Windward Islands Women’s Cricket Tournament in SLU

– 2019 – Member CWI Cricket Development Committee

– 2019 – Chairperson Windward Islands Women Cricket Development Committee

– 2022- Inducted in the South Castries Cricket Association Hall of Excellence.

Eugena acknowledged the Hall of Fame for this historic occasion and urges other aspiring players both male and female to empower themselves and to grab every opportunity which presents itself; be a leader, give back to the sport selflessly, with no expectation of reward but within the true spirit of the game and volunteerism.

Expressing love for her life-long passion, Gregg declared: “My cricketing career had been the happiest days of my life. The elation was evident every time I took the field and my teammates rallied around me.”

She gained selection on the West Indies Women’s Cricket Team in 1989 and was permanently featured until 1997. Gregg was the first Saint Lucian to be selected to a West Indies Cricket Team.
