A three –member team including two athletes and a coach leaves the island today (Saturday) to participate in a major regional marathon event.
Seasoned long-distance runners Neville Dupre and Laura-Lynn Limery will represent Saint Lucia at the 16th Caricom 10km road races in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) tomorrow. The event forms part of the pre-event of the annual July meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government.
The race which begins at 5.00 a.m. in Chaguramas, will be run along a flat route, starting at Pier1 along the Western Main Road past Five Islands Water Park to the Military Gate at Chaqacabana Beach, where it loops back to head East along the Western Main Road to the Finish Line at the Convention Centre.
In T &T, the two athletes will be under the watchful eyes of Michael Biscette, track and field coach attached to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.
Last year the road races were held in Suriname with Guyanese national Marlon Nicholson winning the 10K in 33 minutes and 25 seconds and Jozeanne Harris of Jamaica the first female across the finish line in a time of 44 minutes and 49 seconds.
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports facilitated the participation of the team for the T&T trip.
