Law enforcement officers are investigating the latest homicide on island involving the stabbing death of a Castries male.
Reports state that on Thursday (March, 16) at about 8: 56 p.m., Emran Felix of Balata, Castries was allegedly stabbed to death on Victoria Street.
Felix, 37, was transported to the Owen King European Union Hospital (OKEU) via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for a later date.
Meanwhile, police reported that following the increased incidents of violent crimes, particularly the commission of seven homicides within the southern sector, Commissioner of Police, Crusita Descartes- Pelius instructed that a deployment of police officers from across the island report to the division.
The contingent consist of officers of various ranks recalled from leave. The officers have maintained a consistent police presence in the Vieux Fort area, providing both foot and mobile response.
Residents, educational institutions, commuters and the business community have expressed their satisfaction with the level of service provided by the officers as they seek to restore law and order to the area.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) wishes to assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to address the situation in Vieux Fort, including stakeholder engagement.
The RSLPF acknowledges the cooperation of the citizens “during this time and encourage others to participate meaningfully in the process of achieving normalcy in the town of Vieux Fort.”
