The St. Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. is preparing a women’s football team to participate in the CONCACAF Under- 20 Female qualifiers league for World Cup 2024.
This league has been scheduled for April 14 to 23rd at a venue to be decided.
According to an SLFA official, Saint Lucia’s National Under -17 team – by virtue of their age group has been selected to undergo training in preparation for the qualifiers.
The Female U-17 team commenced training, last December, and will compete in the SLFA’s Senior Female competition in an effort to provide the players with requisite match practice and playing time.
The team is being managed under the watchful eyes of Emmanuel Bellas and ably assisted by C Licence Coach participant, Ellisia Marquis.
Meanwhile, the Senior Women’s Championship resumed at the Anse La Raye Playing Field on Tuesday. The U-17 team took on Central Castries, in the first schedule match of the competition.
And it was a resounding victory for the U-17s as they ran havoc to demolish Central Castries 10-1. Two hat-tricks were converted for the U-17s with Freganne Joseph scoring in the 4th, 65th and 81st minutes, and Keshena Ince in the 43rd, 80th and 90th minutes. Arnicka Louis got a brace with goals in 17th and 27th minutes, while Clorie William netted in the 33rd and Jessica Marius in the 40th min.
Faith Regis scored for Central Castries in the 31st min.
Despite a 2 – 2 lock down at half time, Soufriere fought hard to emerge victorious over Anse La Raye 5 – 3.
For Soufriere, goal scorers were Amaya Emmanuel in the 6th minute, Chermalyn Albert 33rd, Kaliya Jn. Baptiste 65th and Sasha Nicholas with a brace from 81st minute and 2nd minute of added on time.
Scoring for Anse La Raye, Shanike Modeste got a brace with goals in the 17th and 18th minutes, and Velenie Gustave in the 56th minute.
Meanwhile, the SLFA Inc. has disclosed that due to the number of girls currently participating in the Senior Women’s Championship, the issue of the time for matches at night has become an issue for the SLFA’s Inc. scrutiny.
Consequently, according to an SLFA spokesperson, it has been decided to undertake to develop a new schedule that will allow all the Girls to play without having to cut short their participation for their various teams.
As such, the SLFA Inc. have developed a new schedule which will be circulated in the following week.
The fixture for upcoming matches are as follows, and these are the last set of matches to be played at scheduled times and on weekdays.
Monday 16th, January – Soufriere Mini Stadium
Canaries vs. Anse La Raye – 6.00 p.m.
Dennery vs. Soufriere – 8.00 p.m.
Monday 16th January – Desruisseaux Playing Field
Desruisseaux vs. National Under-20 – 6.00 pm
Vieux Fort South vs. Central Castries – 8.00 pm.
