Granted tomorrow is not promised to anyone, but just in case there is a tomorrow you need to prepare for it.
I have difficulty in understanding how so many people seek to enjoy today and not think of another day, especially those who earn and claim how much harder they have to work to earn, but find nothing wrong with blowing-out their wages in a moment.
This is especially a male custom, you see them at the bars drinking excessively, sporting all the modern-day shoes while the women do the same to style their hair or do their nails, etc.
It is always about having the most-modern brand, the latest and newest model available, having the newest vehicle on the market, going out to all the shows night after night, trying their best to impress, or make a statement giving the impression that they are well-off.
But this is not reflected after they have passed a certain age, most forget that if you don’t save or invest wisely, there will come a time that you will lose that spending-power or the escalating cost of living will catch up with you.
In the same way, if you don’t plant food or even a peas-tree or herbs of any type, you will always need to buy — just like fishing or eating from your home stock because if you don’t care about rearing animals or throwing a line into the sea from time to time, or better-still, watch what you drink or how much you consume, you will always be in want and in need and always be looking for the next buck to sustain the same old habits.
Everybody wants to enjoy the best grade of herb, have the best grade of hash, drink the finest wine or scotch and dine in exclusive places, as well as looking their best, but it is the business sector that are the biggest beneficiaries.
Those enticing you to buy, those who encourage you to spend, those who offer you their services, in the long run you are the one responsible for making them rich, while you live to impress.
Nothing remains the same — just like your age, you never stay the same and the older you get the greater your needs and the less you saved, or the more you wasted while you had, the more problematic your future will be. There is no getting better, if things are bad or hard, now it will get worse.
You need to have a clear vision of the future, you must pay attention to world trends and you must come to the realization that when you are down and out, the many friends you spent your money with or on will not be there to bail you out. You are the one responsible for your future, you are the one who has to make that stitch in time, you need to find the time to prepare, you need to come to the realization that time or money wasted on stupidity will be badly-needed when you have left the status of youth.
Most people today who have, did not acquire by wasting what they had, they achieved by ensuring that they secured their future. I watch, I listen, I observe and I see the many blunders and bad decisions that so many make, and I also see the many people in Constitution Park on a daily basis looking for handouts, many simply because they never took time to think of their tomorrow.
We all are educated, we all claim to be sensible, we continue to show-off, but even though some seem bright, they do not shine. Like the singer sang, “They looking like Coke but they tasting like Sprite!”
Tomorrow is the most important day in your life. It is also the time when all that did not affect you in your younger days seem to happen to you at that point in time. The cost of services or the needed help usually comes heavy and failing to be prepared, or ready to deal with the various challenges, can become a nightmare.
I have said before, I do not want to be known or seen as the Prophet of Doom, but if no one points out your faults or make you aware of your surroundings or conditions you may be caught with your pants down, and that’s not a good position to be caught in…
I see the future better than most younger ones because in my case, age brings reason, but at the same time, usually, it is other people who see your faults, not yourself. Our problem is not the lack of education but the ignorance that we portray, the lack of being sensible, the ‘Do like the Jonses’ syndrome.
We want to be noticed, we want to be counted amongst the haves, we want people to talk about us. We want to be in the limelight… Wow! How smart we can be…
And we do not listen to those who have become victims, nor do we care to listen to the voice of reason, which reminds many of us of our children.
