It was another proud moment for Saint Lucia’s Joel Polius and SAGU Lions as they secured their third SAC Tournament title in five years.

The buzzer-beater win against Wayland Baptist, came after SAGU had back-to-back jumpers from Joel, putting them on top 47-46 with 7:43 left. A dunk off the glass by our homegrown star from teammate Joshua Kalisha “punctuated the Lions’ onslaught”, giving SAGU a 54-46 advantage with 3:19 to go.
However, as we all know, basketball is a game of runs. Wayland Baptist chipped away at the lead setting the tone for a nail-biter. (56-56 with 13 seconds left)
SAGU eventually outlasted Wayland Baptist 58-56 after Kalisha sank a two-pointer with 4 seconds left in regulation claiming the Sooner Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament championship Tuesday at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Joel, who wears the number 24 jersey, finished the finals with 20 points and six rebounds.
