The St. Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) salutes all women workers as we celebrate and support the observance of International Women’s Day 2022 under the internationally acclaimed theme “Break the Bias”. As a trade union, we operate under the principles of gender equality, inclusiveness and non-discrimination and rejects any form of gender bias in the work place. Today we must celebrate the achievement of our women, raise awareness against all forms of bias and promote actions towards equality.
St. Lucian women serve in important roles in many of our local institutions including holding leadership positions in the Public Service, Statutory Organizations and in several private sector businesses locally, regionally and internationally. We can safely say that we no longer live in a male dominated society as an increasing number of women pursue careers in areas across the spectrum of academic endeavors. At the level of Government, we note the important portfolios being held by women and those who serve in the Senate and on many Government Boards and Constituency Councils.
Women also contribute significantly to the service sector performing varied roles in tourism, construction, health care, hospitality, security and other vital support services. Notwithstanding, they continue to be supportive parents and care givers often times balancing work and home life responsibilities without the support of a partner.
Over the years we have seen many women serve the CSA with distinction in various capacities and going forward we must create the environment for even greater involvement in the business of the organization. Let us demonstrate to the world that we are an equal opportunity Trade Union that values the contribution of everyone who comes forward to serve regardless of gender.
While we celebrate our women today, it’s important that we continue to take steps to eliminate all forms of discrimination and bias in the work place. Sadly, there are subtle and not so subtle acts of bias against women in our various work places which must be eliminated where they are found to exist. We must demonstrate a no tolerance attitude to all forms of victimization and discrimination as we celebrate the achievement of women of this country.
Happy International Women’s Day to all our women workers, Lets Break the Bias!
