What can we do to avoid the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic?

“IF my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” KJV 2 Chronicles 7:14

It is heartening to witness what is happening in our country today. Our people are turning to Yahweh in prayer and humbling themselves in his presence from the field to the highest office in the land. That is the Change that every Bible believing person hoped for. We have strayed from the path of righteousness for too long. Let us return to Biblical principles we once stood for and the faith of our fathers.

The new Saint Lucia Labour Party Government is challenged on every side, in just two short weeks, the country is almost heading for a shut down due to the raging COVID 19 Delta variant which is wreaking havoc in Martinique and is also present in other states in the region, which has already been confirmed in Saint Lucia. However, our daily cases are rising at an alarming rate and as a result gave cause for action from the government. While the government has declared that it will not seek mandatory vaccination of its citizens, it is necessary for all citizens to understand the importance of being vaccinated so as to save themselves and others from catching the deadly virus. We must without any undue hesitation seek to be our brother’s keeper.

There has been far too much misinformation about COVID-19. The first step is for those who wilfully disseminate information that create doubts in the minds of others to desist from such actions forthwith. It is dangerous and those persons must take responsibility for the suffering and death of others who follow them. Let us reason together, if the vaccines are so dangerous and all those who take them are likely to die, then the world is in a bad shape as many of our leaders will die and the people will be left to fend on their own. In many cases overwhelmed with grief to the point where life will not be worth living. Suicide will take centre stage. Will you like to live in a world like that?

Let us be guided by the advice of the people we have always relied upon for guidance in the area of health. Let us heed their warnings, let us do what seems right in the absence of no other clear recommendation as it relates to the control of this COVID 19 pandemic. In all my adult life, I have never heard about vaccines being rejected by citizens. Why now? What is so different today, even when science is so much more advanced? Those who have ears to hear, let them hear. If you are in doubt, check with your family doctor. Unless advised otherwise by your doctor, take the vaccine.

Last week, I promised my take on the Cabinet of Ministers. I thought long and hard and decided that the Cabinet has been selected under the guidance of the Hon. Prime Minister, Philip Joseph Pierre and the hierarchy of the Saint Lucia Labour Party whose judgment should be accepted.

The Cabinet when looked at as a whole has a very rounded group of men and women, who will be supported by the brightest and best advisers available in our country and in the Diaspora. So my approach is simply to let them settle down and see what fruits they will bear. We will never get everything we want in life, so as in most things, we have to live in a state of compromise. Let us give the government time to perform and we will be back to take a first look after 100 days. I hope that my readers are willing to live with that. In previous columns, I laid out my expectations of the government that would have formed the present administration. They are well documented in my columns, even to the point where I gave projections for the outcome of the elections.

COVID-19 is on my mind and I wish to end this column by calling upon all those who will read this piece and have not taken the prescribed dose/s of vaccine to pray to Yahweh for guidance as to their approach to dealing with the vaccine and do what is right in his sight. It is not the will of Yahweh that any of us should perish but come to repentance and do what is right. The Hon. Prime Minister in his address to the Nation last Wednesday evening amended the curfew hours, commencing from 9.00 p.m. and making it very clear that businesses should close latest 8.00 p.m. to allow employees to be home for 9.00.p.m. Almost all of the previous restrictions were reintroduced. The arrangements will be in place for the period August 13 to 31, 2021.

Let us be guided by the amended protocols and seek to do all things necessary to keep us safe.
Keep the faith, Yahweh is in charge. We shall overcome.
