Legal Action Begins
The long-awaited launch of the legal action to recover fair and just compensation on behalf of policyholders of British American Insurance Company Limited in seven Caribbean countries, is well under way, and BACOL is reaching out to potential beneficiaries to explain why this legal action is the best option for the recovery of their investments.
The lawsuit was filed by BACOL’s attorneys on July 13th, 2021, at the Caribbean Court of Justice in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. BACOL held an official media launch to formally announce the beginning of legal proceedings, on Monday, July 26th, and this was followed by a series of four town hall meetings for policyholders in the Caribbean and the diaspora.
Since then, registration of policyholders has continued a pace, to ensure that as many eligible policyholders and/or their beneficiaries are signed up to be represented by BACOL.
Registration
Policyholder registration is taking place through Case Managers, appointed to review and receive claims in each of the countries represented in this legal action:
• Antigua and Barbuda
• Dominica
• Grenada
• Montserrat
• St. Kitts and Nevis
• St. Lucia
• St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Access to Case managers is publicised through advertising in each country, identifying the respective Case Managers, and also provided through the BACOL website , www.bacol.info, and a contact centre, available via WhatsApp.
BACOL on the Airwaves
Complementing its online advertising campaign, BACOL is engaging audiences across the participating countries with a print and electronic media advertising campaign, supported b y engagement of listening and viewing audiences on radio and television call-in, talk programmes.
BACOL has been ably represented by its President, Dr. Patrick Antoine, who has appeared as a guest on local stations in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, explaining the the reasons for which BACOL was formed, the mechanics of involvement, and the hopes and expectations of financial justice for all policyholders of British American Insurance.
