SAINT LUCIA is riding the waves across the region as the island’s students continue to cop top education awards at regional and international educational institutions.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Education celebrated top achiever Ariel Albert of the Saint Joseph’s Convent, the winner in the Secondary Level grade 7-9 category of the CARICOM Energy Awareness Month 2017, Youth Essay Competition. (See Page 3)
St. Lucian Shernelle Octave also made the island proud, as the Valedictorian and top performer at the University of the Southern Caribbean at a recent graduation in Trinidad & Tobago.
Octave graduated with a BA in Accounting and a 3.98 GPA at the University, which also has a campus based here in St. Lucia.
Site Coordinator of the St. Lucian Campus of the University of the Southern Caribbean, Cecilia Inglis-Leon, in an exclusive interview with the VOICE, said she was “pleased that the highest performing student out of a little less than 600 graduates was a St. Lucian.”
She added, “We had an entire St. Lucian family who started here. They tied their waists and the gentleman took his whole family to the main campus, so he graduated, his wife graduated and his two sons graduated.”
She was speaking about a St. Lucian family who had started their courses at the St. Lucian campus of USC, then moved to Trinidad in order to complete them.
Also the presidents of the Associate student body and the graduating class executive were a St. Lucians. St. Lucians are really performing and are hardworkers at USC.
