THE on-going discussion and debate on decriminalisation of marijuana here was taken one short step ahead yesterday by Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, when he addressed the controversial issue at the Judicial Conference on Sentencing Guideline at Coco Palm Hotel.
‘Restoration, Not Retribution’ was the general theme of the address and he applied that line of thinking to the decriminalisation of marijuana, assuring persons that his government is looking at this issue closely.
Speaking about cases relating to the illegality of marijuana possession, Chastanet stated that “When it comes to such cases, we again suggest more restorative forms of justice.”
He went on to say: “Our Government’s efforts are being directed towards re-evaluating the need for the criminalisation of marijuana possession.”
But he warned those looking to abuse the relaxation of the law that “Our move toward decriminalisation does not mean that people can use with impunity.”
P.M. don’t move – leave the damn Law the way it is. It is the
Drug Lords that want the Law revised, bit by bit, so one day
they will want complete decriminalization in place. Even The
police “WELFARE association wants the law relaxed quite a bit.
I smell a Rat.
