IT is incredible that a legitimate opposition could act in such an incomprehensible manner in relation to the safety of the patients, staff and visitors.
By the recommendation of the opposition some twelve months ago, it was suggested that prompt action should be taken, in respect to the roofing of the George Odlum Stadium. But today, while this action is in progress, Moses Jn. Baptiste (Musa) is making a mockery of his party and the political system in general.
This is the sad part of individuals who win a seat in parliament without the requisite skills and knowledge of understanding the grave responsibilities as an elected member. There is no doubt that having to execute the removal of a roof at a makeshift hospital is not the first choice of any administration, but unfortunately, there is no other choice given the dangerous aspect of the situation at this time.
We must ask ourselves which is more dangerous: two weeks of discomfort or a major section of a deteriorating roof likely to collapse at any given time?
This is not a time for finger-pointing, but had the former administration acted more responsibly, the current administration would not have been in this unpredictable situation.
When Vaughan Lewis became Prime Minister, he took the necessary action to remove the asbestos covering over the CDC Buildings and he was severely criticized by the said SLP, so evidently this is the modus operandi of a party of obstructionists who reaped the whirlwind of rejection in 2016 and have not yet changed their political game plan to suit the times.
The current administration must remain steadfast and complete the roof removal as quickly as possible. It is indeed disconcerting that certain members of the SLMDA have found it fitting to physically visit the St. Jude’s Hospital and incite the workers in respect to the ongoing works, instead of acting in a conciliatory manner based on the positive side of the ongoing works.
In our view, this behavior, if permitted, will undoubtedly have an ongoing negative impact on an organisation which should be working in the interest of the nation.
