FOLLOWING a day off on Wednesday, the action resumes today in the 2017 Winlott/CBN Windward Islands School Games currently taking place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
From 9:00 a.m., in male basketball, Dominica meet Saint Lucia while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines play Grenada at 10:30 a.m. Both games scheduled for Gomea.
In football, from 3:30 p.m., it’s Dominica versus Saint Lucia while Saint Vincent play Grenada at 4:00 p.m. Both matches are scheduled for Georgetown.
In female basketball, from 6:00 p.m., it’s Dominica versus Saint Lucia. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines meet Grenada at 8:00 p.m. Both matches scheduled for Arnos Vale.
From 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, in female volleyball, Grenada play Saint Lucia while it’s Saint Vincent versus Dominica at 10:30 a.m. Both matches are scheduled at Gomea.
In football, from 2:00 p.m. Saint Lucia play Grenada followed by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines going up against Dominica at 4:00 p.m. Both matches are scheduled for Georgetown.
In female basketball, from 6:00 p.m. Saint Lucia play Grenada and it’s Saint Vincent versus Dominica at 8:00 p.m. Both matches are scheduled for Arnos Vale.
Saturday will see the final round of competion at Arnos Vale and Gomea followed by the closing ceremony slated for 7:45 p.m. at the Games Village in West St. George.
On Tuesday, it was all Dominica as they got the better of Team Saint Lucia in all matches played. They won the female volleyball match 3-2 in a very close and exciting match-up. The Dominicans raced to an early 2-0 lead with scores of 25-19 and 25-17. Saint Lucia came back strong to level the encounter with scores of 25-17 and 25-13. However, in the fifth and final set, the Dominicans held their nerve to win by 15-12.
In football, the two teams played to an exciting 1-1 draw in Georgetown while at Arnos Vale in female basketball, the Dominicans defeated Saint Lucia 52-36.
On Monday, following the incomplete track and field competition at Arnos Vale, Team Saint Lucia was sixteen points ahead of defending champions Grenada. Overall scores: Saint Lucia – 203, Grenada – 187, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – 163 and Dominica – 143.
Saint Lucia’s outstanding athletes to date are Allana Paul, who captured gold in the 100-metres (12.68 seconds), gold in the 200-metres (25.57 seconds), gold in the 400-metres (59.53 seconds), gold in the 4×100-metres relay and bronze in the 4×400-metres relay.
Other performances included:
• Neema Leon: gold in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.55 metres; long jump (5.45 metres), 4×100-metres relay and bronze in the 4×400-metres relay.
• Rochelle Etienne: gold in the javelin with a distance throw of 37.85 metres, silver in the long jump with a distance of 5.20 metres and bronze in the 4×400-metres relay.
• Darcelle Francis captured silver in the 400 metres and bronze in the 4×400 metres relay.
• Stephan Charles: gold in the 100-metres (11.08 seconds), gold in the 200-metres (22.50 seconds), gold in the 4×400-metres relay and silver in the 4×100-metres relay.
• Fresh from the World Juniors, middle distance runner Reuben Nichols won gold in the 800- metres and 4×400-metres relay, and silver in the 400 metres.
• Tyrese Paul won gold in the 400-metres and 4×400-metres relay.
• Jean Mitchele Etienne won gold in the 4×100-metres relay and silver in the 100-metres.
Meanwhile, in male volleyball, Grenada defeated Dominica 3-0 while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines defeated Saint Lucia 3-1.
In female basketball, Grenada defeated Dominica 46-41 and Saint Lucia (20) Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (6).
In male basketball, it was Grenada (39) Dominica (32) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (63) and Saint Lucia (47).
In netball, Grenada defeated Dominica 48-27 while Saint Lucia had the better of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 44-22.
